Royal Oak Man Dubbed ‘Potty Peeper’ Arrested, Accused Of Planting Camera In Cider Mill Toilet

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) – A Royal Oak man accused of hiding a camera inside a portable potty at a popular cider mill is behind bars.

Washtenaw County investigators arrested the 45-year old a day after releasing photos of the man involved in the peeping tom incident that occurred last fall.

Several tips came in from the public, and the “potty peeper” was identified.

Authorities say the camera was found inside the toilet at Wiard’s Orchards on Merritt Rd. in Ypsilanti Township. On the camera police found images of the man’s face prominently displayed as well as a date stamp.

They haven’t said how many, if any, people using the restroom was photographed.

The suspect was taken into custody in the Ypsilanti area without incident and is currently lodged within the Washtenaw County Jail.

“The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank everyone who provided information during this investigation and
we applaud the public for your interest in public safety and contributing to the arrest of this individual, ” Sheriff Jerry Clayton said in a statement.

Taking photos of a person without clothing without their permission is a felony in Michigan — punishable by up to two years in prison and a fine.

Investigators will be presenting their findings to the Washtenaw County Prosecutors Office. The suspect’s name will be released at the time of his arraignment on formal charges, set for Saturday, Oct. 1.

All the news releases from the police & orchard state that there were no other people photographed – only him. The camera was discovered immediately after he placed it and had only his face on it. It was a porta-potty that had been there for a 3rd party race that was being held and was there for less than an hour before they found it. I work at the orchard and they released statements regarding this.
