Couple Donates Property To Detroit River Wildlife Refuge

BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A southeastern Michigan couple is donating 43 acres of property to the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge for conservation and environmental education.

The gift by Clarice and Clive Taylor of Gibraltar being announced Tuesday is in Monroe County's Berlin Township and is intersected by Mouillee Creek. It includes 20 acres of wetlands, 14 acres of agricultural lands and nine acres of oak-hickory woodlot and planted grasslands.

Called the Taylor Unit, the property is near the 4,040-acre Pointe Mouillee State Game Area that's managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the refuge's 204-acre Strong Unit that includes coastal wetlands and the refuge's 224-acre Brancheau Unit.

The Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge includes nearly 6,000 acres along 48 miles of the lower Detroit River and western Lake Erie.
