Officials: Woman Killed In Mobile Home Fire Was Smoking While Hooked To Oxygen Tank

HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Careless smoking may be to blame for a deadly fire in Highland Township, according to officials.

Fire investigators say the 64-year-old victim was smoking while hooked up to an oxygen tank. It also wasn't the first time fire crews had been called to the woman's home, according to The Oakland Press.

The fire took off around 9 p.m. last Friday at the Highland Greens Estates mobile home park off Milford Road just north of M-59. Crews were forced to enter the home on Steward Court through a window due to heavy flames and thick smoke billowing from a bedroom.

Once inside, crews located the woman in another room and brought her out of the home through a window. She was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The woman's cause of death is pending. Her name was not released.
