Peeps aren’t just limited to Easter anymore. The sweet treats might have started out with colored sugar and plain fluffy marshmallow but today, Peeps have grown to include inventive flavors themed to the season with some chicks even dipped and covered in fudge.

This fall season, Peeps is rolling out all the stops with five varieties of fudge dipped chicks: Caramel Apple, Candy Corn, Maple Brown Sugar, Pumpkin Spice Latte and Chocolate Dipped Orange. Each flavor contains three chicks in a package.

I was only able to get my hands on three of the fall flavors — the pumpkin spice and chocolate dipped varieties are apparently very popular.

Orange, yellow and white, these Peeps chicks are sure to delight. And they actually taste like candy corn — dare I say, even better than the real thing.  The orange sugar adds a nice little crunch to the marshmallow, while the white fudge gives the chick an unusual but pleasantly creamy texture. When eaten together — you know, after you bite the head off — the white fudge actually intensifies the candy corn flavor.

Caramel Apple Flavored Chicks

A caramel apples in a cute and quirky chick shape. I thought the apple flavor would be overpowering, but the marshmallow itself has just the faintest taste of apple — it’s perfect. However, the caramel fudge portion is salty, which by itself is tasty but when mixed with the apple marshmallow is just…weird. And it has a very strange aftertaste — I can’t quite place it, but it’s almost plastic like.

Available exclusively at Target, these melt-in-your-mouth chicks will definitely delight your sweet tooth. First, they smell like a big stack of syrupy pancakes. YUM! Secondly, they are sweetened with the perfect ratio of maple to brown sugar. Most maple flavored things are flavored so strongly that its the only thing you can taste, but the brown sugar notes were still noticeable. And neither are overpowering — you can still taste the marshmallow.  The white fudge actually brings out the brown sugar flavor and finishes with a smooth, creamy texture. Compared to the other two flavors, this one  seems to be the sweetest of the bunch.
