Downtown Detroit Gas Station Targeted By Would-Be Smash-And-Grab Thieves

DETROIT (WWJ) - Would-be smash-and-grab thieves miss the mark at a downtown Detroit business.

The attempted break-in happened early Thursday morning at the Sunoco gas station on Fort and First streets.

Co-owner Jacob Ancowi said the crooks tried to break through the gas station's front doors, but were apparent spooked by a couple of security guards who were driving around the area and took off before getting their hands on anything.

"If this is the worst that happened, then we're OK down here," said Ancowi.

The building sustained some damage, but will still be open for business.

Police obtained security footage from the gas station and are now searching for the suspects. Descriptions weren't immediately released.

An investigation is ongoing.
