Mask-Wearing Armed Robbery Suspect Caught In Ohio

YPSILANTI TWP. (WWJ) - A man on the run through two states after a series of armed robberies is now in custody.

The FBI confirmed to WWJ Newsradio 950 that 37-year-old Todd Raymond Keith was caught in Brown County, just east of Cincinnati on the Ohio-Kentucky border on Friday night.

Todd Lindgren, media and public affairs coordinator for the FBI Cincinnati Division, told WWJ that Keith was taken into custody just after 10 p.m. in a barn near Aberdeen, Ohio after abandoning his car and fleeing on foot.

"There were a number of law enforcement agencies involved," Lindgren said. "FBI, local sheriff's office, local police departments, Ohio State Highway Patrol and many others.

"He was taken into custody tonight, peacefully," Lindgren said.

Keith is believed to be involved in an armed robbery of a tobacco shop in Tiffin, Ohio -- 50 miles southeast of Toledo -- and a bank just north of Columbus on Friday after authorities say he was connected to a robbery spree throughout metro Detroit.

According to the FBI, Keith was wearing a Halloween-type mask when he robbed a Chase Bank branch, on Sept. 30, and Key Bank branch on Oct. 3 — both in Ypsilanti Township. A weapon was seen during both robberies, investigators say; and during one of them shots were fired. No one was injured.

Keith was also being sought as "person of interest" in three hotel robberies on Thursday, Oct. 6: a Livonia Embassy Suites (wearing a clown mask) and a Livonia Days Inn (wearing a pumpkin mask) and Madison Heights Extended Stay (wearing a clown mask).

Investigators say he's also a person of interest in an armed robbery of a Walgreens pharmacy in Brownstown (wearing a clown mask) on Oct. 4, and a carjacking of a black Lexus in the parking lot of Sona Pharmacy in Madison Heights (in a pumpkin mask) on Oct. 6.

The FBI issued a warrant for Keith, who tell WWJ's Stephanie Davis may also be the same suspect who allegedly shot at police as they chased him from Livonia to Detroit on Thursday.

Lindgren said that Keith is facing several federal warrants out of Michigan and that there could be further charges early next week.

Keith will appear in Cincinnati federal court on Tuesday.
