Wally Joyner Out As Tigers Hitting Coach

DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers announced Saturday that bullpen coach Mick Billmeyer, third base coach Dave Clark, pitching coach Rich Dubee, bench coach Gene Lamont, defensive coordinator Matt Martin and first base coach Omar Vizquel will return to the Tigers coaching staff in 2017.

Wally Joyner, who served as Detroit’s hitting coach from 2014-16, is not returning as the hitting coach in 2017 as he is interested in pursuing other interests in the game of baseball.

Assistant hitting coach David Newhan’s status on the 2017 coaching staff will be determined once the Tigers have hired their new hitting coach.
