Mindfulness Workshop For Parents To Help Ease Stress, Create More Resilience For Kids

BIRMINGHAM (WWJ) - A workshop for parents to ease their stress and the stress of their children is October 27 at Groves High School in Birmingham.

Rita Benn, Chair of the Michigan Collaborative for Mindfulness in Education, says mindfulness builds critical skills that help children focus, and bring a sense of calmness and resilience.

"I think any parent who has an interest in wanting to know how to feel less stressed for themselves and how to help their children help with stress - should come," says Benn.

She says there's a workshop for professionals too, running October 28 - 29.

Author Susan Kaiser Greenland is speaking at both events.

"It gives a range of advice -- the first aspect is really being present to whatever it is that you are doing in life," says Kaiser.

If you're interested in learning how mindfulness can help your child's stress as well as your own - the Mindfulness Workshop is available for parents -- based on a freewill donation. The workshop for teachers and other professionals has a fee.
