Grand Jury Requested To Investigate Misconduct In Office By Michigan's Governor Snyder

LANSING (WWJ) - More possible legal woes for Michigan's governor as a one-person grand jury is requested to investigate the use of public funds for Rick Snyder's personal legal defense in connection with the Flint water crisis.

Former Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer filed papers in Ingham County Circuit Court Tuesday afternoon calling for the creation of a one-person grand jury to investigate alleged misconduct in office violations by Governor Rick Snyder.

"Mr. Brewer wants this investigation into the governor's use of state tax dollars to pay for his own private defense attorneys as it relates to the Flint water crisis," says WWJ's Lansing reporter Tim Skubick.

Brewer alleges that the governor was engaged in a conflict of interest by seeking his own side council with the taxpayers absorbing the bill.

It's expected that Brewer will announce that Snyder's conduct in office should be investigated by the one-person grand jury - it may amount to malfeasance in office says Skubick.

There is no guarantee that the court will authorize this investigation -- but Brewer, who would not comment for this story, believes there is no precedence for any public funds or official to do this.

Two news conferences are scheduled for Wednesday.
