Caught On Camera: Crook Breaks Into Elderly Detroit Man's Home [VIDEO]

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are hoping the public can help identify a suspect who was caught on security cameras breaking into an elderly home.

The break-in happened around 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4 in the 19300 block of Freeland, in a neighborhood near 7 Mile Road and the Lodge Freeway.

Police say the suspect first attempted to kick in the side door, then went around to a window where he cut the screen and entered the home. Once inside, police say the suspect stole personal items, including the 83-year-old homeowner's jewelry. He then fled the scene.

The suspect is described as a black male with a light complexion and black hair. He was wearing a red sweatshirt, blue jeans and white shoes.

Police have released footage from the crime in hopes that someone in the public will recognize the suspect and speak up.
