Caught On Camera: Crook Breaks Into Elderly Detroit Man’s Home [VIDEO]

DETROIT (WWJ) – Detroit police are hoping the public can help identify a suspect who was caught on security cameras breaking into an elderly home.

The break-in happened around 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4 in the 19300 block of Freeland, in a neighborhood near 7 Mile Road and the Lodge Freeway.

Police say the suspect first attempted to kick in the side door, then went around to a window where he cut the screen and entered the home. Once inside, police say the suspect stole personal items, including the 83-year-old homeowner’s jewelry. He then fled the scene.

The suspect is described as a black male with a light complexion and black hair. He was wearing a red sweatshirt, blue jeans and white shoes.

Police have released footage from the crime in hopes that someone in the public will recognize the suspect and speak up.

Anyone who knows of the suspect’s whereabouts or who has any other information is urged to contact police at 313-596-1240 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
