DETROIT (WWJ) – Detroit police are at the federal courthouse Friday after a “suspicious package” was found.

Officials at US District Court on W. Lafayette in downtown Detroit said an alert went off when an envelope when through an X-ray machine used to scan all of the incoming mail at the courthouse. It was addressed to a federal judge.

The U.S. Marshals Service, Detroit Police Department, Detroit Fire Department and Federal Protective Service all responded to the scene.

Federal court officials said the Detroit Police Hazardous Materials/Bomb Squad was checking the envelope to see if it contains any dangerous materials.

There is no information at this time as to who may have sent the package.

No injuries have been reported.
