HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ) – Two young children were critically injured Sunday night in a drunk driving crash in Highland Park.

The two kids in the Neon subcompact, ages 6 and 7, were not wearing seat belts.

Police say with their mother at the wheel — the car drifted into oncoming traffic at the corner of Hamilton and Brighton, where she struck a SUV head-on reports WWJ’s Ron Dewey.

The other driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The mother was not injured and arrested at the scene.

Police tell WWJ that the mom has a prior conviction for drunk driving and will be arraigned on Monday for the same charge.
