Business Owner Charged With First Degree Murder In Shooting Outside Detroit's Famed Hip Hop Shop

DETROIT (WWJ) - The owner of a Detroit business with a well-known name has been charged with premeditated murder.

Keith B. Hudson, 41, was arraigned Tuesday on charges of first-degree murder, manslaughter, and felony firearm in the death of 26-year-old Marcel Dubose. He was remanded to jail.

The shooting took place around 9:20 p.m. on October 10 outside of the Original Hip Hop Shop, on 7 Mile Road just west of Greenfield Road, which is owned by Hudson. It's a re-opened version of the famous Hip Hop Shop featured in the movie "8 Mile"

Witnesses told police that Dubose was apparently trying to sell CDs in front of the store shortly before the shooting. Hudson reportedly told investigators he fired his weapon when Dubose tried to rob him.

Dubose, who was shot multiple times, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials say other details about the case will be revealed at the preliminary examination on October 31. Hunter is due back in court for a probable cause conference on October 25.
