Woman Stabbed In Struggle With Mugger On Grand Rapids Street

GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ) - Police are looking for a mugger who stabbed a woman who fought back on a Grand Rapids street.

Officers were called to the scene, on Bates St. and Dolbee Av SE, shortly after 5 a.m. Tuesday to find a 57-year-old woman bleeding from both legs. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.

According to investigators, the victim was walking on Bates when an unknown man approached her and demanded her belongings. A struggle ensued, police said, and the woman was stabbed.

The mugger fled on foot.

He's described as a black male, around 25-30 years old and about 6 feet tall with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a
black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

An investigation by the Grand Rapids Police Department's Major Case Team is ongoing.
