Clarkston Man Charged In 2 Attacks On Female Joggers

FLINT (WWJ) - A 40-year-old man has been arrested on charges in connection with two assaults on women along jogging paths in Genesee County.

Charles Gamble of Clarkston is accused of carrying out an attack at Davison Regional Park in Davison on Sept. 30 and one week later near Goodrich Middle School in Goodrich.

In the first case, prosecutors say a 33-year-old woman reported a man ran in front of her and struck her in her in the face with his fist. She blacked out and awoke lying on the pavement. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries to her face.

In the second incident, a 36-year-old woman was with her two kids when a man ran out from behind a tree and begin punching her. She struggled, according to prosecutors, and when her 7-year-old son started yelling the assailant ran away, striking the child as he fled. The victim then saw the suspect drive away in a black SUV.

"An investigation by the police and the Sheriff's Office led us to our suspect," said Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton in a media release. "We will continue to investigate for further evidence and will do everything we can to see that justice is served and the public's safety is not at risk from this man."

Gamble faces two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, each a 10-year felony, and one misdemeanor count of assault and battery.

Tcttiumes.com reports that, Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell said during a news conference that  Gamble is under psychiatric care for rage and impulsive behaviors and he attends weekly anonymous sex addiction meetings.

The sheriff said, "In 1999, Gamble choked his wife to the point of unconsciousness and fractured her eye socket...He is a violent man who preyed on innocent women and children, using our parks and trails that are to be used by families."

The sheriff urged those who go out to walk or tun to use the buddy system, avoid remote areas and always bring a call phone.

He remains lodged at the Genesee County Jail awaiting an arraignment for Friday afternoon in 67th District Court.

Meantime, investigators involved in these two cases are sharing the information with detectives looking for the person who murdered Alexandra Brueger as she jogged in Holly Township over the summer. No one has been arrested or charged in the Brueger case.
