Detroit Man Faces A Dozen Charges In Attack On Ex-Girlfriend, Police

DETROIT (WWJ) - A man arrested after prosecutors say he fired shots and threw a cinder block at Detroit police is facing a laundry list of charges.

An arraignment is scheduled for Friday for 25-year-old Keith DeShawn Montgomery — who allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend's house early Wednesday on Brentwood Street, near 7 Mile and I-75, on the city's northeast side.

Montgomery is accused of hitting the 24-year-old woman and pointing a gun at her head. He then allegedly shot at officers who rushed to the scene and threw a brick in their direction before escaping through an upstairs window.

Police thought they were dealing with a barricaded gunman situation, but after several hours a SWAT team entered and learned Montgomery was no longer inside the home.

Montgomery was later located and arrested.

Police Commander Elvin Barren, on the day of the incident, told WWJ's Charlie Langton investigators believed the initial dispute was triggered by a love triangle — that Montgomery wasn't happy that the victim was dating someone new.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has charged Montgomery with the following: one count of Assault with Intent to Murder; five counts of Felonious Assault; one count of Home Invasion 1st Degree; one count of Assault by Strangulation; one count of Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm; one count of Aggravated Domestic Violence; one count of Felony Firearm; and one count of Reckless Discharge of Firearm.

He is set to appear in 36th District Court at 2:30 p.m.
