Tentative Agreement Reached Over Trash Pickup In Flint

FLINT, Mich. (AP) - City officials in Flint have tentatively reached an agreement over trash pickup.

Mayor Karen Weaver has been locked in a weeks-long battle with the Flint City Council on the issue. The council has wanted to stick with Republic Services while Weaver favors Rizzo Environmental Services.

On Friday the city put out a news release saying it has offered a one-year contract to Republic, which will agree to do the same work for the same price as Rizzo.

Under the agreement a lawsuit over the issue will be dismissed.

It's been another unflattering affair for Flint, where residents are drinking bottled water or filtered tap water because of a lead-tainted water supply.
