3 Arrested In Theft From Monument To Michigan Soldier

CEDAR SPRINGS, Mich. (AP) - Three people have been arrested following the theft of a replica rifle, helmet and dog tags from a western Michigan monument commemorating a soldier killed in Iraq.

The Kent County sheriff's office earlier reported the theft from the Timothy Brown monument at Memorial Park in Cedar Springs, northeast of Grand Rapids.

The department says a 17-year-old boy and two men, all from Cedar Springs, were arrested Thursday and the stolen portions of the monument were recovered.

The military has said 23-year-old Army Spc. Timothy Brown of Cedar Springs, was killed Nov. 4, 2005 by a roadside bomb while checking for explosives around the Humvee in which he and four other soldiers were riding.

In 2013, Brown's grave marker and several others at a Nelson Township cemetery were damaged by vandals.
