Boy Chasing His Dog Hit And Killed By 69-Year-Old Driver

WESTLAND (WWJ) - A 10-year-old Westland boy was hit by a car and killed Saturday night when he was trying to chase down his dog.

Police told WWJ 950 the dog had gotten loose at about 7 p.m. and Gage Carter chased him onto Wayne road near Avondale when he and the dog were struck by the car.

Carter was taken to a local hospital, but died of his injuries.

The driver, 69, stopped and remained at the scene after hitting the boy and dog.

A Go Fund Me account has been set up for the family to address expenses related to Carter's death. The person who set it up described the boy and dog as best friends.

"The family is going to need us all to pull together and help them through this VERY hard time," the Go Fund Me says.
