5 Cars To Be Thankful For This Thanksgiving

Being thankful is perhaps the most meaningful Thanksgiving tradition. So, when you head over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house, as the familiar poem instructs, be happy you are getting there by the best means of transportation possible. This often calls for being shepherded along in the family car, but the task can also be assigned to a rental vehicle for the occasion, especially if the trip is a long one. Conversely, if you're the person hosting this shindig that revolves around turkey and all the trimmings, you'll want to depend on a good car to get you to all the places you need to go in order to obtain all that is necessary to make your feast a memorable one. That said, consider the best on four wheels to be gratefully used on Thanksgiving 2016 in whichever way necessary.

A Big Haul

If you're looking to haul a lot of stuff (and stuffing) up to and during the coming holiday, consider doing so in one of the most efficient vehicles sold in this country today. That car is actually a hybrid: The Toyota Prius v station wagon. This vehicle gets 42 miles per gallon— and that is high on the list for best fuel economy for 2016 via the Department of Energy. Plus, this car is roomy with plenty of cargo space.

How Sporty

Sometimes we're thankful for the faster things in life, like the ubiquitous sports car. So which one of these super special vehicles lands on the top of the heap? By some standards, like those hammered out by Autobytel, that would be the 2016 Ford Mustang GT. This enviable people-mover runs on a 5.0L V-8 435hp engine and depend on 18-inch aluminum wheels. The nifty car also is commanded via cruise and ABS and driveline traction and promises Advance Trac electronic stability. In other words, if you opt for this method of transportation, expect a swift but smooth ride beyond all others.

Small Wonder

If your aim is to get to Thanksgiving dinner in a car that's small on size but big on style, consider the Mini Cooper Convertible. Car and Driver considers this tiny roadster to be one of the best undersized cars on the market these days, with bragging rights to EPAs of 28 in the city and 37 on the highway. If the weather is worthy of enjoying the wind in your hair, get ready to experience the convertible component in only a matter of moments, since the so-called power top folds flat in a mere 18 seconds.

Going Green

If you're looking to be as ecologically correct as possible when it comes to riding to Thanksgiving dinner, turn to Tesla. Although the American car manufacturer's new self-driving vehicle, the Tesla Model 3, won't be ready for this year's Turkey Day, the Tesla Model S is. With more than 200 miles worth of road range on a single charge, this vehicle was ranked as the top selling plug-in electric car in 2015 when Car and Driver called this beast the Car of the Century. Tesla Model S had also been called the World Green Car of the Year a few years ago, and, for sure, still stands as a symbol of excellence in that uncrowded arena.

What A Luxury

For pure luxury when it comes to getting to the feast on time, look to a vehicle that is retail priced at a whopping $1.3 million -- and worth every penny if you are the kind of driver who must be behind the wheel of the best of the best. Called the Pagani Huayra, this Italian super car gets its spirit from a twin-turbo Mercedes-AMG V12, six-liter engine. Oh, and the sleek beauty can go from resting to 100 km per hour in 3.3 seconds flat. No wonder this particular specialty vehicle was named after the Inca god of the winds. Whoosh!
