Text Alert Warns Of Possible Gunman At Macomb Community College; Center Campus Closed

CLINTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - No weapon was seen, but an emergency alert sent to students and staffers at Macomb Community College on Wednesday warned of a possible man with a gun on the school's Center Campus.

The campus is now closed "as a precaution" — with all students and staffers being asked to leave.

According to Jeanne Nicol, a spokeswoman for the school, the text message was a result of a group email between students. One student, she said, reported he was in a men's restroom on campus when he thought he heard someone loading a clip into a pistol in an adjacent stall.

No one was injured and there have been no arrests.

An update sent at around 4:30 p.m., also via text message, announced that the campus was closed, adding "All students and staff should leave Center Campus at this time."

Nicol said the school has its own certified police force which is handling the investigation.

School officials are asking that any MCC students who have information about this incident or who have seen anything suspicious to call Center Campus police at 586-286-2123.

Nicol said Center Campus — located on Garfield Road, south of Hall Road in Clinton Township — was expected to reopen for classes on Thursday. Updates will be posted on the school's website.
