Exit Polls Show 48% For Trump, 48% For Clinton In Michigan
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - It's way too close to call. Election Day exit polling results show a tie between presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton in Michigan.
In the statewide survey by MIRS News and Target Insyght, Trump got 48 percent of the vote, Clinton got 48 percent and Libertarian Gary Johnson got 2 percent. The remaining 2 percent was split between other candidates.
Among those supporting Trump, 11 percent said it was because he "cares about people line me," 23 percent said he "agrees with their position on issues and policies and 32 percent said it was because he "will bring change that is needed." Only 3 percent said he is the "most qualified."
Among Clinton supporters, 58 percent said it was because she was the "most qualified," and 19 percent said she "agrees with their position on issues and policies." Only 7 percent said she "cares about people like me," and 7 percent said she is "the candidate America needs."
Why they didn't vote for Trump: 49 percent said they "don't trust" him. Why they didn't vote for Clinton: 39 percent said she is "not qualified."
The survey ran from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and included both in-person and absentee voters. It has a margin of error of 4 percent, with 46 percent men and 54 percent women responding.
The polls closed in Michigan at 8 p.m.
