Magic Johnson Foundation To Supply Holiday Gifts For Flint Families

FLINT (AP) — The Magic Johnson Foundation is expanding its "Holiday Hope" events to a third Michigan city.

Families in Flint now will receive food, toys and gifts as part of the foundation's holiday giving on Saturday and Sunday. It also is being held in Detroit and Lansing.

The foundation says nearly 5,000 families and 400 children have been identified to take part in the program by community partners in each city. Each child will receive toys, a new coat, scarf and a bicycle. They also will participate in holiday parties.

Basketball Hall of Fame inductee and Lansing native Earvin "Magic" Johnson starred for Michigan State University and led the Spartans to the 1979 NCAA basketball championship.

Johnson started the Magic Johnson Foundation in 1991 to develop programs and support community-based organizations.
