The Lions could soon get back a significant piece of their offense.

Per Ian Rapoport, running back Ameer Abdullah is scheduled to meet with a doctor on Tuesday to determine if he can resume practicing. If Abdullah is given the go-ahead, Rapoport suggests he could be back activated within three weeks.

Abdullah has been on injured reserve since tearing a ligament in his left foot in the Lions' Week 2 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Without him, the team's rushing attack has hit the skids. The Lions haven't run for 100 yards in a game since the aforementioned loss to the Titans. They rank 27th in the NFL with 86.8 rushing yards per game.

In limited action this season, Abdullah averaged 5.6 yards per carry. As a team, the Lions have averaged 3.9 yards per carry.

Based on Rapoport's timeline, Abdullah could return against either the Chicago Bears on Dec. 11 or the New York Giants on Dec. 18. Having served eight weeks on IR, he's eligible to be activated at any point.
