Pedestrians Hit While Using Crosswalk In Sterling Heights, 1 Woman Killed

STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) -- A woman was killed after two pedestrians were hit by a car in Sterling Heights on Thursday.

Police say the women, aged 45 and 49, were trying to cross 15 Mile Rd. at Dodge Park Rd. when they were hit by a 49-year-old Warren man driving an Oldsmobile on Thanksgiving night.

Police say that the women were reported to have entered the crosswalk against the light and were attempting to go from the north side of 15 Mile to the south side.

The 45-year old died, while the other woman is in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the driver had a green light. He stopped and was interviewed by police.

The intersection was shut down for three and a half hours while an investigation was conducted. Alcohol and speed so not appear to be factors in the incident.

Sterling Heights police are asking anyone who saw the accident to contact them at 586-446-2920.
