Michigan GOP Ready For Statewide Recount Of Votes In Presidential Election

DETROIT (WWJ) - Officials in Wisconsin announced Friday they were moving forward with the first presidential recount in state history. The effort, led by Green Party nominee Jill Stein, has been called a "scam" by President-elect Donald Trump.

If the re-count were to happen in Michigan the Republican party in the state is ready - State Republican Party Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel says they have been in touch with the Donald Trump campaign.

" ... and our legal counsel to make sure that we'll have the volunteers that we need - that they will be trained and that we can make sure that it's a fair recount process, if it does come to that," said Romney McDaniel.

Stein will have to pay $125 per precinct – 6,300 in Michigan – for a cost of $787,500.

She's raised more than $6 million toward a $7 million goal to pay for the three recounts as well as legal costs anticipated to accompany the process.

"Clearly they are working together, the Clinton campaign doesn't want to take the lead, and it's unfortunate because it means our process will be delayed but in the end I have every confidence in our election process and our Secretary of State Ruth Johnson," said Romney McDaniel.

Romney McDaniel says on November 8th, Michigan voters went to the polls, cast their ballots, and Donald Trump won Michigan. She also says she is confident the results of a recount will be the same.
