Recall Of Ready-To-Eat Chicken Expands To 2 Million Pounds

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - Some varieties of Hormel pre-cooked food service and direct to retail chicken have been recalled because they may be undercooked and unsafe to eat.

National Steak and Poultry, out of Owasso, Okla., has expanded its recall to include approximately two-million pounds of ready-to-eat chicken strips and diced chicken because of the potential survival of bacteria in the products due to the undercooking, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The scope of this recall expansion now includes a variety of ready-to-eat chicken products that were produced on various dates from August 20, 2016 through November 30, 2016. A list of the additional products subject to recall is listed here.

The cases containing the products subject to recall bear establishment number "P-6010T" inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to food service locations nationwide and were sold directly to retail consumers at the establishments' monthly dock sale.

Below are the details of the originally recalled product:

The company says the problem was discovered on Nov. 14 when a food service customer complained that a product appeared to be undercooked.

The FSIS is now working to make sure that the products, which were shipped to food service locations nationwide, will no longer available to consumers.

No other Hormel products are impacted and no illnesses have been confirmed in connection to these recalled products.

Consumers with questions about the recall can contact the company at 918-274-8787 or the toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline 1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854).

Anyone who may have eaten the recalled chicken who is concerned about related health issues should call a doctor.
