Southfield Police Search For Driver Involved In Deadly Hit-And-Run Crash

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Police are searching for the driver of a burgundy sedan after the victim of a hit-and-run crash died over the weekend.

The accident happened at 6:40 p.m. on November 23, in the area of Greenfield Road and 11 Mile Rd. in Southfield.

Police say 78-year-old James Ruby of Royal Oak was on foot crossing Greenfield from west to east, just south of 11 Mile, when he was struck by a southbound vehicle.

He was taken by EMS to Providence Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.

The responsible driver, police say, stopped briefly at the scene but left before officers arrived.

The vehicle involve is described as a burgundy sedan with a Michigan handicap license plate. It may have damage to the front end from this crash. The driver is described as a light-skinned female with black hair. According to a witness, she is possibly Asian or middle-Eastern.

Police say traffic was heavy in the area at the time of the crash. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who might have information about the suspect vehicle or the driver is asked to call Southfield Police Officer Scott Dickey at 248-796-5408.
