The Silverdome Makes An Appearance In New 'Transformers' Trailer [VIDEO]

(CBS Detroit) -- Now stretching over five films, the Transformers franchise is no stranger to the city of Detroit.

Michael Bay and his crew have routinely filmed the blockbuster movies in the Motor City over the past several years. The latest local sight to make it into one of the films -- The Pontiac Silverdome.

The first trailer for the franchise's fifth movie -- Transformers: The Last Knight -- was released on Monday. One of the trailer's defining shots was from the inside of the run-down Silverdome.

 

 

The Silverdome was the home of the Detroit Lions from 1975 until the team moved to Ford Field in 2002. The Detroit Pistons also played at the stadium from 1978 to 1988.

The giant figure has sat vacant since 2013 when with its roof was damaged in a winter storm. The Silverdome was put up for sale in June 2015 with a price tag of $30 million.

Transformers: The Last Knight is due to open in theaters on June 23, 2017.
