1-Year-Old Dies In Detroit Bathtub; Mom Was Tired From 12-Hour Shift

DETROIT (WWJ) Police are investigating after a one year old girl was found dead in an east side Detroit home.

Investigators say the mother was sleeping on a couch in a home on Balfour Street after working a 12 hour shift.

Her four-year-old child woke her up and said she had wet herself.

The mother told police she began running water in the bath tub to wash the child, but she fell back asleep.

A short time later the mother was woken up again by the older child and "directed to the bathtub" where she said she found the one-year old unresponsive.

The girl was taken to St. John's Hospital at about 3 a.m., where she was pronounced dead.
