Lapeer County Sheriff Critical, 2nd Driver Dead After Head-On Crash
DAVISON TWP. (WWJ) - The Lapeer County Sheriff is hospitalized in critical condition after a head-on crash that killed another driver.
Lapeer County's Ron Kalanquin was rushed Hurley Medical Center in Flint after the crash in Genesee County's Davison Township on Thursday.
A law enforcement source tells WWJ Newsradio 950 the driver of a minivan driver crossed the center line on Davison Rd, near Oak Rd., hitting Sheriff Kalanquin's vehicle head-on. He was taken by EMS to a local hospital.
The other driver, whose name was not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The roads were snowy and slick a the time of the crash, which authorities believe was likely a factor. An investigation is ongoing.
It's believed Kalanquin was headed into the township for a meeting. He was elected Lapeer County Sheriff in 1980.
