Trail Of Blood Leads Police To Home Invasion Suspect

PONTIAC (WWJ) - Police were able to nab a home invasion suspect after following a literal trail of blood through the woods in Pontiac.

The incident unfolded around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday at the North Hill Farms apartments in the 100 block of Cherry Hill Drive, not far from Telegraph and West Kennett roads.

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene after receiving a call about a home invasion in progress. The caller, a 24-year-old woman,  stated that a male suspect had exited her apartment with a television and entered into the passenger side of a white Grand Am. She further stated that the vehicle was being driven by a female and was traveling northbound on Telegraph Road.

Police received additional information that the suspect was bleeding badly from an injury sustained during the break-in, and had exited the vehicle and fled into the woodlands at Hawthorne Park. At that point, a perimeter was established and a K-9 unit was called to the scene.

Deputies were able to locate a blood trail and began tracking the suspect prior to the arrival of the K-9 unit. Eventually, the suspect -- a 19-year-old Clinton Township man -- was apprehended and taken into custody. He was treated at the hospital for an injury, interviewed by detectives and lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending criminal charges.

The driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old Madison Heights woman, was also apprehended at a local gas station and the stolen property was recovered, according to police. She was taken to the substation to be interviewed by detectives and was released pending further investigation.
