Reward In Fatal Shooting Of Wayne State Officer Rises To $30,000

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) — The reward for information in the fatal shooting of a college police officer has risen to $30,000.

DTE Energy announced Friday it was matching the existing reward of $15,000 for information in the Nov. 22 shooting of Wayne State University officer Collin Rose. Rose died the following day.

Police have released grainy videos of a suspect riding a bicycle just before the slaying and running away afterward.

Rose was investigating possible thefts of navigation systems from cars when he radioed that he was about to speak to someone on a bike. Rose was shot in the head during the stop.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig told reporters Thursday that police and prosecutors had "probable cause" to arrest and charge DeAngelo Davis with murder in the November Rose's death. Craig says Davis was released Wednesday after the investigation "led us in a different direction."

"I stand firm we made a legal arrest," Craig said, adding that officers may talk again to Davis "from the view of a witness."

"We believe that the suspect (Davis) has connections to the bicycle, as does the suspect we now believe is the one responsible for the shooting of the Wayne State officer," he said. "Both individuals have connections with this bike. So that said, we may want to have another conversation with him, but I'll let my investigators do their job."

Anyone who may have information about the suspect, the bike or anything related to Rose's death is asked to call police or make an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
