The L.A. Rams fired their head coach Jeff Fisher Monday afternoon following a 42-14 loss to the Falcons, which led to lots of speculation about coach possibilities.

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh's name was immediately bandied around.

MMQB's Albert Breer joined the Colin Cowherd show Friday afternoon before any of the news about Fisher's firing and mentioned Harbaugh as a candidate to become the next head coach of the L.A. Rams.

Colin Cowherd came back from a commercial break saying, "By the way Albert Breer on the way out said that Jim Harbaugh to the Rams rumor is a "very real thing."

He added, "Harbaugh's been there for two years and has clearly turned around the program at Michigan, but I told you Pete Carroll is a very competitive person. Like more competitive then virtually anybody that you have ever met. Jim Harbaugh shares that trait with Pete Carroll they are just relentlessly competitive people.

"Pete Carroll got increasingly frustrated with the NCAA and the limitations without a playoff system that didn't allow Pete to compete and Pete and Jim share that kind of personality. Did the horrible officiating at Ohio State feel small to Harbaugh? Did he feel like something was robbed? He didn't get voted into the Final Four, the terrible officiating, how does that sit with Harbaugh? I don't know. I have said before I have never figured out how you only pay $5-6 million for a great NFL head coach."

"Who is out there right now? If you're the Rams and you're going to get rid of Fisher, who is out there? Harbaugh has to be at the top of the list," Cowherd continued.

You can hear the entire interview HERE starting at the 15-minute mark.

Breer later elaborated on his comment with a tweet saying, "To be clear...I never said Harbaugh was going anywhere. I believe he'll eventually be back in the NFL. Until then, teams will pursue him."

The University of Michigan beat writers scoffed at the idea that Harbaugh would ever think to leave the Wolverines.

Rams wire, which is part of USA Today, has Harbaugh listed as their second choice behind Jon Gruden.

Harbaugh, however, would be a bit of a wild card and an unexpected candidate to return to the NFL after just two seasons with Michigan.

Let's not forget that Harbaugh coached the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2013 and then a 12-win season the following season. Harbaugh would be a home run hire for the Rams if they could somehow pull it off.

Do you see any way that Jim Harbaugh would leave the Wolverines after two seasons to coach in the NFL again?
