CANTON (WWJ) – Authorities say a woman who was struck by a vehicle as she was crossing Michigan Avenue in Canton has died.
The accident happened just after 11:30 p.m. Monday in the area of Lotz Road. Police say the 30-year-old Canton woman was crossing the westbound lanes of Michigan Avenue, from the south side to the north side, when she was struck by a vehicle.
The woman was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Livonia in critical condition, where she later died from her injuries.
Police say the driver involved stopped at the scene and was questioned by officers. Speed, alcohol, and distracted driving do not appear to be factors in the crash, according to police.
An investigation is ongoing.
The accident happened at the same area where two men were hit and killed last month. A 54-year-old Westland resident and a 45-year-old Inkster man were both fatally struck, just hours apart, while crossing Michigan Avenue in the same area. One driver involved in the crashes has not been found.
