Tips Wanted In 2012 Murder Of Detroit Man Heard Pleading For His Life

DETROIT (WWJ) - Four years later, police are asking for help to solve the case of a 35-year-old man gunned down in Detroit.

According to Crime Stoppers, Robert Darnell Harris — also known as "Smokey" — was murdered at around 1 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, on the city's east side.

Police have little information in the case, other than that Harris was heard "pleading for his life" moments before the shots rang out, in the area of Hayes and Hazelridge near Kelly and Seymour Streets.

No description of the suspect has been released.

Crime Stoppers says Harris graduated from Kettering High School in Detroit, attended Superior Medical Education College, and at one point worked as a security guard at Hart Plaza and Cobo Hall. He liked to box, cook and write poetry.

Crime Stoppers is now offering a cash reward of up to $2,500 for the tip leading to an arrest in this case.

Anyone who has any information that could help detectives find Harris' killer is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. Tips may also be submitted online at this link, or by texting CSM and the tip to CRIMES (2746370).
