Independence Day in the U.S. is here for another year of celebrating our independence from Great Britain. Each year, friends and family traditionally get together to watched dazzling displays of fireworks and have good eats cooking outdoors. Detroit and its surrounding areas have family friendly events throughout the holiday which happens to fall on a Tuesday in 2017. Here's a quick guide when looking for events for the 4th of July.

In its 59th year, Ford Fireworks Rooftop Party presented by Ford will take place along the Detroit River. The celebration is joined by hundreds of business and civic leaders for the occasion. In addition to a mesmerizing display, there are activities for kids with live entertainment, food by Andiamo and a selection of drinks. The night will also feature one of its most important fundraisers on the top of the Center Parking Garage.

Festival Of The Hills Fireworks is Michigan's second largest fireworks show and is an evening of fun for the whole family. Family games begin at 6:00 p.m. in the park complimented by music and live entertainment. No matter the weather, the show will go on. Fireworks begin at 10:00 p.m. It is recommended to arrive early to get parking even in a nearby subdivision. It should also be noted that cell phone service is restricted so finalizing plans beforehand will serve best when meeting up with others.

Marking its 25th anniversary, Salute To America celebrates with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra along with the Jazz Ambassadors of the United States Army Field Band performing a preshow. The experience includes spectacular music, a fife and drum parade, a cannon fire plus the fireworks finale. Tickets run $29.00 for a non-member and $19.50 for children 3-11.

Get ready for 4th of July events by taking a look at your dream car in the 18th annual Cruisin' Downriver which travels from Riverview, to Wyandotte, to Southgate then wrapping up in Lincoln Park. Classic cars will line the curbside lanes as over 300,000 participants and onlookers admire vehicle history... some with modifications. As noted, curbside lanes will be used for the cruise as traffic will remain open unless noted otherwise. Traffic lights will also be in normal use while the cities will enforce a strict code of conduct.

Oakland County will host a family fun event at Addison Oaks campground with face painting, a wagon ride, pony rides with a petting zoo, a magic show, team games and bingo. Admission to the event is $15 per vehicle after noon or if the vehicle has the Annual Vehicle Permit, admission is free. Fireworks will end the day of entertainment with a fireworks show.
