Detroit and the surrounding area offers many different opportunities to celebrate moms on Mother's Day. There are many events that would be perfect for sons and moms to attend, and spend the day together. The weekend is packed with fun events from comedy shows and brunch to walking in the park and baseball. There are many events to choose between to create the perfect mom-son day filled with memories to last a lifetime.

Stony Creek Walk A Mom is a local tradition for over 20 years. It starts at the Stony Creek Nature Center, then visitors walk throughout the park. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It's a great time out in nature with mom hiking through the park. It is suggested to wear comfortable footwear, comfortable clothing, and bring a camera. Moms and grandmas receive a free plant for their garden. Participants will receive a certificate for participation. The event is free. Parking requires a permit or daily fee.

The Detroit Zoo is holding their annual Mother's Day Brunch. Brunch begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m. The brunch is held at the main picnic grove, and there is a free gift for all mothers in attendance. It is family style seating for the event, and families are welcome to bring a buster seat or highchair for young children. There are 3 time slots for this event, and pre-purchase of tickets is advised. Pre-purchased tickets include zoo admission. Tickets will be available at the door, if the event does not sell out through online sales. At the door tickets do not include zoo admission. Prices vary between member and non-members.

The wildflower walk and brunch in the park afterwards is a wonderful way to celebrate Mother's Day. This event takes place at the Hudson Mills Metro Park Activities Center. The walk is led by an interpreter knowledgeable about the wildflowers and wildlife in the park. The talk includes information about how the animals and plants approach parenthood. Brunch follows the wildflower walk. It is recommended to preregister for this event. The walk is $5 for adults, $3 for children, and moms are free. Brunch is an additional $8 for adults, $5 for children. This event runs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and parking requires a permit or pay per day.

Mother's Day brunch and baseball is the perfect day out for mom and son. This event takes place at Jimmy John's stadium. Gates open early at 11 a.m. for Grandstand ticket holders attending the brunch. It is scheduled to enjoy a nice brunch prior to the game's first pitch. Brunch for Grandstand ticket holders is served from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the party patio. The other option is to purchase tickets for the party patio and brunch. For these tickets, brunch is served from 12:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The baseball game starts at 1:05 p.m. Prices vary per ticket choices.

The Mother's Day Comedy Night with Mike Bliss is at the Bridge of Life Church (Taylor campus). This event happens on May 12th, the evening prior to Mother's Day. This is an evening of comedy and magic. Mike is known for his performances on America's Got Talent. This event is either the show or the show and dinner. Dinner is either steak or chicken prepared by Chef Barney and Associates. The show tickets are $25, and the show plus dinner tickets are $40. All profits are for the renovation of a school in Guatemala.
