David G. Sowerby, CFA, Loomis Sayles & Company, Bloomfield Hills
David Sowerby joined Loomis Sayles & Company in 1998 and has 26 years of investment management experience. During his tenure at Loomis Sayles, David has held a variety of senior positions including his current role as portfolio manager working directly with institutional clients and multi-product accounts. He draws upon his breadth of experience and intimate knowledge of Loomis Sayles product, process and discipline to widely communicate his current views on the equity and capital markets and provide updates on our capabilities and specific portfolios. As a portfolio manager, David works with clients on asset allocation strategies across many Loomis Sayles institutional and mutual fund products.
Sowerby was appointed to the MEDC Executive Committee in 2012.
Prior to Loomis Sayles, he served as a senior portfolio manager for Beacon Investment Management Company in Ann Arbor, Michigan from 1993-1998. He began his investment career in 1986 providing economic analysis and market strategy as an economist for Comerica Bank.
Education And Personal
David earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in economics from Wayne State University. He also holds a Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
David is a member of the board of directors for the State of Michigan Chamber of Commerce. He also serves on the investment committee for Beaumont Hospitals, and was recently appointed by the Governor to serve as a director for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. David served 10 years as chairman on the investment advisory committee for the state of Michigan’s $50 billion pension fund. As a tribute to his work, he was the 2002 recipient of Wayne State University’s distinguished corporate citizen award. In 2009, David was awarded an honorary doctorate from Cleary University. David is a regular contributor to the Blue Chip Financial Survey and a frequent guest on CNBC, Bloomberg television and other financial market programs.
