Born and raised in one of the nation’s most important cities, Detroit, Dan Leach has always had a very deep connection to the city and teams he grew up loving and rooting for. Even while working in TV and Radio away from the Motor City, his love for his hometown and its great teams never wavered. Rumors of him coming out of the womb signing “Forward Down The Field” lead to epic trips to Lions and Michigan football games with his grandpa and father starting at age two. There his bond and love of sports was born.
A graduate and classmate of Charlie Batch and Earl Boykins at Eastern Michigan University , he was often seen cracking Boykins up as he diagramed plays in one of the greatest college courses ever assembled, “Theory of Basketball 101.” Dan then was lucky enough to be baptized in broadcasting as an intern with Dan “Touchdown Detroit Lions” Miller at Fox 2. Stops in Costa Rica (some of the most beautiful women in the world), Atlanta, and Florida followed.
He comes back home to join 97.1 The Ticket after hosting nationally syndicated shows on Sports Byline USA and Sirius Satellite Radio. Dan has also called football and basketball play-by-play on radio and TV, most recently on the NAFL game of the week on CAMTV.
An avid hot air balloon enthusiast, huge Pearl Jam fan, and always willing to look at both sides of an argument or story, Dan could not be happier to be joining the great team at 97.1 The Ticket. He looks forward to sparking hearty debate, entertaining the great people of Michigan, and making the world a better place one listener at a time.
Be careful what you wish for cause you just might get it!
Two of the greatest words in Sports get to be put to use on Sunday Night…..GAME 7!
With Phil Jackson in Motown this week advising the Pistons on hiring their next head coach, one can wonder what is on the “Zen Master’s” Mind?
With Iron Man 3 coming out this weekend, I thought I would show some respect to the comic book movie, as over the past decade plus, movies based on comic book heroes from many of our youths have taken cinema by storm.
The fact that it took this long for an active gay athlete playing in the four North American sports leagues to come out is maddening.
The time has come; all the waiting, hoping, wondering if this years’ Lions draft will make sense.
The 2013 Detroit Lions regular season schedule is out and in many ways it’s like a holiday as fans old and young alike will love it, ridicule it, and of course give too many wins to the Lions.
As the news broke of the frightening bombing at the Boston Marathon on Monday, my heart dropped.
This is what it is all about. The hundreds of practices, the endless shooting drills, all the blood, sweat, and tears of a process that starts for each of the 347 teams with a chance to cut down the nets.
I was right behind the Michigan bench, surrounded by friends and family of the team that many wrote off just a few weeks ago as they clinched a spot in the National Title game, one win away from history.
