A123 Systems, a developer and manufacturer of advanced nanophosphate lithium iron phosphate batteries and systems, Tuesday introduced Nanophosphate EXT, a new lithium ion battery technology capable of operating at extreme temperatures without requiring thermal management. A123 employs more than 1,000 people at battery production plans in Livonia and Romulus.
The Massachusetts-based battery maker A123 Systems said Monday it will spend $55 million recalling defective automotive batteries made at its Livonia plant.
Chevrolet Wednesday announced it will produce an all-electric version of the Chevrolet Spark mini-car, the Spark EV. It will be sold in limited quantities in select U.S. and global markets starting in 2013, including California.
