Federal officials are looking into the denial of a zoning change that would have allowed construction of a 360-student Islamic school in Pittsfield Township.
The Michigan Islamic Academy has filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court against Pittsfield Township, saying it violated federal law by denying a zoning change that would allow construction of a 360-student school.
Opponents cited traffic and other issues if the Michigan Islamic Academy is built a school near a residential area. Members of CAIR believe that’s just an excuse to block the school from the neighborhood.
