“Probably getting pretty close to a sim game,” starting pitcher Justin Verlander said Monday after he threw a 45-pitch bullpen at Comerica.
“You have to be open-minded to evolving changes,” said Dombrowski, who hired Ausmus to replace Jim Leyland in 2014.
“My last few days have been very, very, very encouraging,” Price said Wednesday at the Detroit Economic Club meeting.
“Alex is going to see Dr. Kyle Anderson … tomorrow for another evaluation,” Ausmus said. “We should know more tomorrow.”
Martinez had recently been moved to the sixth spot because of struggles at the plate, but Ausmus said Martinez has turned a corner.
The Tigers had plenty of chances to win. The fact they lost does not come down to Ausmus’s decision to pinch-run for Cabrera.
Martinez has been working with Tigers hitting coach Wally Joyner to get himself back to form, and those efforts have made a difference.
“My heel stepped on the bat, and then it rolled to the front of my foot,” Price said. “It felt like it kind of hyperextended my leg.”
