Funeral services in Farmington Saturday for former Red Wings assistant coach Brad McCrimmon, who died in a plane crash in Russia last week.
It happened halfway around the world, but one of the worst-ever tragedies involving a sports team hit close to home for the Red Wings.
The Russian ice hockey team whose players were killed in a plane crash will be rebuilt in time to take part in this year’s Kontinental Hockey League season, according to the league leader.
The team announced Thursday that assistant coach Brad McCrimmon won’t be back next season. McCrimmon’s contract expired last week when Detroit was eliminated by the San Jose Sharks in their Western Conference semifinal.
