Authorities are searching for two suspects who stole a car from a gas station on Detroit’s northwest side and crashed into a gas meter, causing a gas leak in the area.
At around 6:30 a.m., a pick up truck hit the rear of the DDOT bus which was stopped in the left lane on I-94 near Cadieux. Moments later, a van struck both the bus and the truck.
Authorities in Bertrand Township say a school bus with 34 children aboard went off a road and struck a tree, but none of the children needed medical care.
The department says alcohol and foggy weather conditions are believed to be factors in the crash, which is under investigation.
Authorities said traffic lights were not working at the corner of Fairfield and W. Six Mile, when the bus and another vehicle failed to stop and the two vehicles collided.
The mother of the victims found the children trapped under the vehicle and contacted police.
