Detroit Police Looking For ‘Volunteer Angels’ To Spot Suspicious Activity After Extended Curfew Rejected
Police say they’re looking for exceptional community members to serve as the department’s “eyes and ears” during this weekend’s big events.
“Don’t tell black people how to raise their children,” said Ron Scott, speaking against the proposal.
If youth are caught unsupervised during curfew hours, they could be detained and their parents fined upwards of $500.
Council member Andre Spivey said an expanded curfew seems to have “racial overtones” in the predominantly black city.
The emergency curfew will be in effect Wednesday through Friday for all kids age 17 and younger.
Busloads of minors arrived at police precinct, where they were held overnight until their parents arrived to take them home.
