Detroit Red Wings coach Mike Babcock says a groin injury will prevent starting goalie Jimmy Howard from playing in the NHL All-Star Game in two weeks.
Jimmy Howard injured his groin early in the first period of a 3-1 loss at the hands of the Washington Capitals on Saturday, just hours after being named to the 2015 NHL All-Star roster.
The 2015 NHL All-Star jerseys were announced on Friday as “a bold, fresh jersey design is the perfect complement to the speed and agility of those selected to play.”
Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard, named to his second NHL All-Star game earlier Saturday, left early in the first period with a groin injury after attempting to make the save on Brouwer’s goal.
Howard remained down on his stomach as the trainer came out. After about five minutes, he rose to his knees, was placed on a stretcher and carted to the locker room.
The two teams will be determined during the NHL All-Star Fantasy Draft on Friday, Jan. 23. Captains for each squad will be announced next week.
