It is still legal in Michigan to discriminate against people who are even perceived to be gay and even be fired, denied housing and turned away from a restaurant or hotel.
For every dollar a man makes in Michigan, a woman makes 74 cents, according to a study.
Many who supported Obama in 2008 did so because they believed that he would help black Americans. The criticism four years later is that having a black president in the White House hasn’t helped African Americans at all.
