The 48 Hour Film Project will return to Detroit this weekend, July 18 through the 21, and right now, teams are gearing up to compete against each other in the 48-hour race against the clock!
Meet Chris Chynoweth – video editor and director for Beast – one of the country’s top editorial facilities for commercials, music videos, and web virals. He’s one of the most sought-after music video editors in the Metro Detroit area, and CBS 62 had the chance to sit down and chat with him about our great city!
“What goes on inside the haunted house BEFORE the family moves in?” That’s the tagline for the new film, written by local musician and author Josh Malerman. The film is set to shoot this summer in Detroit, with a team of local filmmakers.
Not only does the film center on Detroit local artist John Panich, but the film will also feature Joe Average from Of Mice And Musicians and Jimmy Doom of Almighty Lumberjacks Of Death. Plus, keep your eyes (and ears) peeled for choreographed dances from Tunde Olaniran and guitar from Dave Taylor of The Amino Acids. It’s a project that is filled to the brim with local Detroit talent.
CBS 62 had the chance to catch up with Jessica Golden – she’s the producer on the film Los Wild Ones – to hear about the festival, the multi-award winner and nominated documentary film, and why Detroit is important to her. Los Wild Ones premiered earlier this year at the 2013 Documentary Competition at South by Southwest. The film makes its premiere in Detroit with the Uptown Film Festival.

Quietly working on a documentary about the homeless people in Detroit, Colin had filmed and interviewed Dreadlock Mike a few years ago, and with the news of his death, he felt compelled to finish it. Colin edited it into a short-profiling documentary about Dreadlock Mike, telling the story and message of Michael Alston for the way he should be remembered.

The 48 Hour Film Project is here in Detroit this weekend, and with the competition only a few days away, we sat down with an experienced professional in weekend film challenges. Shane Sevo is a local Detroit film producer and he truly loves the weekend film challenge format. He’s competed for 10 consecutive years in the National Weekend Film Challenge, which has a very similar set of rules to the 48 Hour Film Project, and has won multiple awards over the years.
