Ford held celebrations in a number of locations, including Las Vegas, Melbourne, Beijing and at the company’s headquarters in Dearborn.
Ford is building a limited-edition Mustang GT to honor the pony car’s 50th anniversary. It is showing the Limited Edition at the New York auto show, which begins this week.
Next month the automaker will display a 2015 Mustang on top of the Empire State Building. It harkens back to something they did in 1965 as the Mustang was launching.
The city of Detroit and Ford Motor Company get a chance to shine in “Need For Speed,” the Electronic Arts-produced movie based on its hugely popular video game racing series. Several other iconic American muscle cars are also featured, along with some pretty cool European super cars.
“It’s going to feature a lot of new drive train options and mechanical upgrades it never had before,” said Kelly Blue Book analyst Karl Brauer.
“Some redesigns and new models replace a onetime star that lingered well past its freshness date, while others are the successor to a car that was doomed from the get-go.”
Ford Motor Co. Monday announced a partnership for the feature film “Need for Speed,” which will include integration of Ford products and extensive media promotion at the film’s release, scheduled for March 14, 2014.
